Noticia sobre el libro «Guillermo Lusa Monforte: historia, enginyeria i compromis».

El mes de setiembre pasado, apareció el libro «Guillermo Lusa Monforte : història, enginyeria i compromís», publicado por Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Iniciativa Digital Politècnica, coordinado por Antoni Roca Rosell y Albert Corominas Subias.

La obra incluye una reflexión autobiográfica de Guillermo Lusa y una selección de escritos hasta ahora no fácilmente accesibles, tanto en la historia de la ciencia y de la técnica como en el mundo de la intervención política, incluyendo la política universitaria.

Con motivo de la digitalización del extenso e interesante mapa “AN ACTUAL SURVEY of the RIVER ORINOCO From the Great Mouth up to the CITY of ANGOSTURA […]” por parte de la biblioteca de la John Carter Brown, situada en Providence, Rhode Island (EE.UU.), conversamos con Matthew Nielsen, becario de la Institución, para conocer las curiosidades que esconde esta fascinante cartografía náutica del Río Orinoco.

Matthew Nielsen es graduado en historia de University of Wyoming, tiene maestría en español de la misma Universidad y es doctorante en historia del Carnegie Mellon University. Sus áreas de interés son historia ambiental, historia social, etnohistoria, aguas transfronterizas y el Mundo Atlántico.

Andrea Wulf’s book the The Invention of Nature tells the story of Alexander von Humboldt, one of the world’s most important nineteenth-century explorers. Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra talks about some of the problems of the book, specifically how Wulf’s view of Humboldt divorces him from the intellectual traditions of Central and South American scholars who helped Humboldt imagine the Americas for European and North American readers. Cañizares-Esguerra is a professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of many books including How to Write the History of the New World: Histories, Epistemologies, and Identities in the Eighteenth-Century Atlantic World.
